Microalgae

Microalgae

Microalgae, including cyanobacteria, are photoautotrofic unicellular organisms that produce biomass rich in proteins, carbohydrates and lipids which founds applications in various sector: nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food & beverage, animal feed and biofuels.

Microalgae, capable of performing photosynthesis, are important for life on earth; they produce approximately half of the atmospheric oxygen and use simultaneously the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide to grow photo-autotrophically.

Microalgae are also a valid source of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E), biotin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, and pigments such as chlorophyll, carotenoids and phycobiliproteins, which, together with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA, Omega 3), are the molecules of the highest value..
